LEFT Exposed AgainPosted on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link
Indian LEFT is exposing its ideological hollowness again. Attention is drawn to Prakash Karat’s latest statement that "the Vice President should be a non political intellectual." For the post of President of India CPM was of the opinion that he should be a political person. The justification given by him is that the Vice President doesn’t have any power to exercise and so he should be a non political person. This seems to be a thought which reflects very poorly about the mind of Mr. Karat and the LEFT for the following reasons.
The Economic Times And MediocrityPosted on Monday, July 9, 2007 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link
Last several months have seen one of the leading Financial news papers of India-The Economic Times devoting a very substantial part of its prime pages on criticizing Mr. Rajnath Singh: the BJP President to the extent that it seems the ET and not the political parties and personalities are the principal opponents of Rajnath Singh. Today it discussed some trivial internal adjustments of the Pracharaks in the states in four columns to prove that the present leadership is promoting mediocrity in the party. Fed up of such stupid writings and priorities by a leading newspaper continuously for so many months in which major issues which may have been given importance like the one affecting the Indian community due to the recent terror attack on Glasgow airport which has brought the Indian community living abroad under the cloud of suspicion and any consequent economic impact thereafter, I think the prejudices of the paper must be put in perspective. If Rajnath Singh promotes mediocrity and paper is so much concerned about it then the paper must make its stand clear on the following issues:
Somnath Chatterjee: Thoughts Bereft of Reality:Posted on Friday, July 29, 2005 at - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkThe speaker of the Lok Sabha Shri Somnath Chatterjee has again spoken against Judiciary. This time on the issue of IMDT Act. It may be known that recently the Supreme Court in a landmark judgment had scrapped the 23 year old IMDT Act which provides for detection of foreigners in Assam, their trial by a tribunal if there is a complaint and more important is the fact that the onus to prove the accused a foreigner lies on the complainant as per the provisions of this Act. On the contrary the Act which is applicable on the foreigners in rest of the country is the Foreigners’ Act according to which the onus in identification lies not on the complainant but on the accused. As per the verdict of the Supreme Court the IMDT Act has failed to check the illegal migration of Bangladeshis in the country. The tribunals are taking long time to decide and that too with ineffective results. Compared to this the Foreigners’ Act has been more successful in identification and deportation. The best example has been cited of The Speaker who recently got more publicity for his unwarranted criticism of the Supreme Court has floated the following arguments in favour of his views in this case against the apex court. 1. “ But how did they(Supreme Court)arrive at the conclusion that lakhs of foreigners are getting in from 2. The manner in which influx is to be dealt with is for the executive’s consideration. The Foreigners’ Act has to be implemented in a particular manner. Can the court scrutinize it on day to day basis? They can’t do it. It is a matter concerning the executive.” 3. The Court’s order is binding, the (IMDT) law is gone. But what the law should be, needs to be left to the Parliament.” Hon’ble Speaker must know that not only the Supreme Court but the whole country knows that illegal migrants from If the danger is not perceived by the Speaker then either he is a blind to the truth or has no concern about nation’s interest. And so his question about SC’s cognizance of the illegal Bangladeshis in The Supreme Court is not questioning the right of the executive to implement a law. Of course even the Foreigners’ Act shall be implemented by the Supreme Court. The real question is that the apex court has the power to exercise its constitutional responsibility of Judicial review. The Act formed in 1882 has proved to be irrelevant and a failure in checking the illegal migration. It could not realize its objectives. The realities of the later years have proved that. Secondly the Act was illegal as how can there be different laws to deal with the same foreigners( read Bangladeshis) in different parts of the country( In this case The concept of appeasement and thereby having political mileage has brought the country to such a stage that the real countrymen are suffering and the foreigners are having a field day. Again the Foreigners’ Act shall be implemented by the executive but the apex court can’t shirk its constitutional responsibilities by giving direction from time to time if the same is not enforced properly. Hon’ble Speaker must realize that though the law making power lies with the Parliament but any law which violates the letter and spirit of the constitution shall not be legal. In such situations the Supreme Court may always intervene through its constitutional power of Judicial Review. As a speaker of the house at least he may advice the political parties not to be carried away by the political consideration to the extent that it goes against the national interest. He may advice them to make only those laws which are not only legal but also in the best interest of the country and its countrymen. Done so the status of Shri Chatterjee shall be enhanced and not get lowered. Please think and act only in the national interest Mr.Speaker.

Thanks to media, both electronic and print, that the reality couldn’t escape the eyes of the Indian citizens. The role of the company is amateurish. Can a democratic set up allow its workers to stop forming trade union? No. The Indian constitution too permits it clearly. Similarly there can’t be a bar to move to the court for getting the grievances redressed. Any citizen of When said this there is another very important point that these facilities to the workers are not bereft of the responsibilities. He has to follow the rules of the company and of course if wage is linked with the productivity then that too will have to be respected by the workers. The district administration couldn’t play a very mature role. May be due to lack of proper homework as the notice for the dharna may have been given in advance. Administration says that the deal was almost reached. Then the administration must have been more cautious about ensuring that nothing happens which may be called untoward. If they came under the pressure from the management then that too is condemnable. The right balance should have been maintained. The issue for consideration is that why not sufficient precautions were taken on Monday which were seen on Tuesday. Blunder was committed in judging the situation. The officers could not think that Parliament was in session, the national media was at arms throw distance and the fact that Gurgaon was the centre of industrial activities in Haryana and such incidents would affect adversely, both nationally as well as internationally, the image of Haryana. The state government failed in handling the situation adeptly. One of the leading national dailies says that when the workers went to meet the CM, Mr. Hudda, complaining about the ill treatment meted out by the management then he said ”agar kaam karma hai to laat khani hi padegi”. One can judge the attitude of CM of the state on such a sensitive issue. No wonder that the police may have got the cue from CM himself. The political parties have severally criticized the act of the administration and the government both within and outside the Parliament. There is nothing wrong it that. A democratic set up demands such a response. Keeping mum may create more conducive environment for exploitation. But the way LEFT has reacted it gives credence to the view that the enemy of UPA is not NDA but it is within. May be LEFT, in line with their philosophy of negativism, may be making grounds for ditching the government some day.( For my views on the role of LEFT read my article “Left Needs To Be Left, Else Country Will Be Left:”) The impact of this incident is far and wide. Though the statement of the Japanese envoy that the FDI coming from Japan may get affected may not be true due to this one incident but it is a fact that the Government must gear up for any such situation at the policy level. With more openness in the economy the issue of lay off, merger, consolidation, strikes, lock out etc. are bound to take place at a larger level. Country needs to have an environment which is conducive to both the employer and the employee. This finer balance needs to be maintained in the fast changing environment at an accepted and comprehensive policy level. The central government must get to labour reforms without delay even if the LEFT wants it to be delayed. So far as the present incident is concerned the government may put pressure on the Honda company to take back all the workers without any discrimination and condition, see that the injured are given medical help for free, transfer the senior administrative and police officers of Gurgaon with immediate effect, wait for the outcome of the judicial enquiry when may propel more actions then. Gurgaon incident is not only a lesson for the government of Haryana but for all the states and the central government as well, so far as the role of employers, employees, relationship between the two in a changing industrial environment, unions and LEFT is concerned. LEFT Needs To Be Left, Else Country Will Be Left:Posted on Friday, July 22, 2005 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkThe country may be experiencing new challenges every day but the LEFT in India is adamant on getting space in the print and electronic media daily without even getting bothered by the events which demand a constructive role by all concerned players. Short of popular support from the mainstream of the Indian society, these days the LEFT leaders have left the popular Lallu far behind on the idiot box coverage. With a gang of 60 they are holding country’s development to ransom. Lacking any constructive policy of nation building, here is a glimpse of their negative philosophy “expressed by saying NO to any positive proposal”-observed after they became a partner in the ruling alliance at the center. 1. No to Democracy: A vibrant democracy functions only if there is a sensitive and efficient government and a dynamic opposition. In the present scenario LEFT has grabbed the role of an ally in the governance as well as opposition. People are confused as LEFT is playing both roles perfectly. I said “perfectly” for governance too because the LEFT leaders are so smart that before the Government declaring any policy decision, which has the consent of the LEFT, it is they who run to the media and declare the same and give an impression to the country that it is they who have got it done, leaving the government in frustration. For instance though it is commonly known that in India the Government of the day, by and large, takes into confidence the major political parties before a major foreign policy initiative is taken. And so the PM consulted the LEFT also as he consulted with the NDA before his departure to US. But before PM could reach US the confidential discussions were revealed by the comrade Bardhan to the press giving again an impression that LEFT is super government. Nobody could understand what was the intention behind that press statement. If any understanding could be developed than it was that LEFT is high jacking the governance of the country without any accountability. 2. No to Propriety or Ethics: LEFT is giving the impression of power hungry jokers who don’t want to dissatisfy their constituency but at the same time want to enjoy the fruits of power. In the process they have forgotten the rules of the game. When PM consulted them before leaving for US, what was the need of playing the record in public before any public statement was released by both the governments? In fact the propriety of governance has been left to oblivion in the process. 3. No truck with US : LEFT wants that India should have its foreign policy which must be based on the premise that there should not be a good relations with US. Agreed that US in no example either for democracy or for human values or for respecting the sovereignty of the nations but the fact can’t be denied that in today’s world US is the most powerful nation. And there is no harm in having issue based good relations with US provided it benefits both. After all both China and Russia are looking towards West for help. Then why not India. The only subtle point is that in the whole process the independence of our foreign policy must be kept intact to the extent that core values/premises are not compromised. However bad US’s record may be but it is a known fact that US is incomparable to the extent that it doesn’t resort to rigging, violence or in asking the voters not to cast their votes which is taken care of by the cadre as it happens in West Bengal. Left must set it own records right before expecting others to follow its wishes. 4. No to Nuclear deal with US: LEFT is opposed to India joining the group of nuclear “Haves”. Why? Can’t be explained. After all when India is a nuclear weapon state(as is the necessity by being the neighbour of rogue Pakistan and shrewd China) then the same needs to be recognized. It is foolish to be not part of Haves and to be denied all the advanced technologies related to nuclear and space science. And if you want to become the one then their is always a cost which has to be born by give and take. 5. No to Economic Reforms: LEFT has again said NO to economic reforms. Their should be NO disinvestments in BHEL. Their should be NO disinvestments in any profit making PSU. There should be NO labour reform. There should be NO reform in Banking and Insurance sector. There should be NO decrease in the rate of interest in EPF even if the bank rates have come down and the present rate of interest is unsustainable. There should be no hike of petroleum products even if the same has gone up in the international market from 38$ a barrel in Nov 2004 to 58$ a barrel now. There should be no FDI in retail sector even if strengthens your supply chain or as Montek Singh Ahluwalia said at least from experimental point of view lets introduce FDI in retail sector. So there should be no experimentation as per LEFT. Further there should be no end to the free power which is being given in some states. There should be no FDI in aviation sector even if it means that the present metro airports are short of infrastructure. There should be no help from world bank or IMF or ADB or JBIC. And last but not the least the LEFT says NO to Mr. Chidambaram. 6. No To Non-Violence: Left never opposes non violence. It hasn’t condemned the violence perpetrated by the naxalites in different part of the country. The trigger happy LEFT is never saddened by the death of the security personnel or innocent civilians. The violent revolution is justified in the name of the utopia already attained in West Bengal and now to be attained in the country. In a way LEFT is also supportive of internal disturbances prevailing within a large part of the country. 7. NO Cordination Committee: Finally LEFT has said NO to the UPA coordination committee. The government will be run without coordination which in turn means greater uncertainty for the country or in other words means greater blackmailing of the upright PM and his government. The day another “NO alternative formation”(third front) is in sight LEFT will say NO to the present government. LEFT must realize its responsibility towards the governance of the country at this critical phase where not only the imporatant economic issues but social and religious issues with international ramifications along with terrorism is raising head. LEFT are a set of learned people and should not be reduced to bunch of Jokers who don’t have a vision of governance but only exploitation and blackmailing. After all the model which their ideology has produced in West Bengal is nowhere termed as an example to be followed. Under the guise of communism poverty and threat has been distributed and not wealth. Who has stopped them is creating a model which can by all standard be called progressive. If any such model emerges then I think the whole country will follow it. But first show it in the states which are ruled by LEFT. Please don’t become a compilation of all negativism. Throw a progressive policy accepted universally by all. If not then don’t highjack the progress of the country. If would have been better if LEFT would have allowed Mr. Manmohan Singh to work for the country and would have compelled him to ensure that fruits of development and progress go to the rural areas and to the farmers and the poor i.e. ensuring that the farmers of Telengana also becomes a shareholder in the progress of Banglore. If LEFT fails to do so then Mr.PM say NO to the LEFT even if it means saying NO to government. (If you like the article then you may e-mail it to two more persons. PM’s US Visit failed To Deliver On Terrorism:Posted on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkA few hours after PM’s AirIndia One will land in Delhi. A visibly happy PM will tell the Parliament in the coming week how smartly he has broken a new deal with the US who not so long back was a country of suspicion and envy for the Indians. He would also convey how the joint communiqué esp. on the nuclear issue has placed India in the company of the “Haves” which India always craved for and that too for a little price of separating the civilian nuclear establishment with the military. There are other achievements in the field of Space, trade and investment, environment etc.
But one issue is missing in the basket of achievements. A firm commitment by US on terrorism in India by Pakistan. No categorical statement has been made by US which shows that US will henceforth cooperate with India against the Pak Sponsored terrorism. Only a meek reference was made that Kashmir is a bilateral issue and US will not meddle with as third party unless asked to do so. This was the reiteration of the old stand. The canvas of the political discussions in US was contrasted by the unending killings of the innocent civilians and the army and paramilitary personnels serving the interest of the nation. After Ayodhya so many killings have been done. A major attempt by the terrorists in Gurej sector has been foiled by the Army. The US intelligence report says that about 2000 terrorists are waiting to enter the Indian soil to cause bloodshed. What is all this? Is it an indicator of bettering of relationship between two countries? In my article titled “Mr. Prime Minister: Discuss the Rogue Pakistan with US:” I had proposed the following, “It is in this context that I propose that PM in the ensuing visit to US must keep Pak high on the agenda and try to convince US that Pakistan is a rogue state. It harbours international terrorists like Daud Ibrahim and Osama Bin Laden. It promotes a culture of terror. India is the most hard hit but West to is now feeling the heat. And so US, the great friend of Pakistan, must ensure that Pakistan becomes clean. PM must tell US that before Kashmir it is the terror question which needs to be dealt with. The issues of Civilian use of nuclear energy, energy policy or economic cooperation must get the second priority in his discussions with US. Pakistan needs to be declared a rogue state.” However, it seems that the issue has not made much headway except the old recording of commitment towards terrorism again played for the Indian PM. This is the serious setback. The schools of jihad in Pakistan first started production and export of terrorists at mass level for India and Russia-in-Afghanistan. Once the Afghanistan issue got settled they were diverted towards India with more vigour. Thanks to Al Qaida that the flow was then partly diverted to the US. The same US instead of hitting at the root of terror in Pakistan, like it hit Afghanistan, made Pakistan a more close friend in the fight against international terrorism. The hope was that if US interest is served by Pakistan then as quid pro quo Pakistan should be allowed to pursue its policy of low intensity war through terrorists in India. Only lip serves were paid while addressing the concern towards Indian interest. And now this policy has backfired. London is bombed. Nobody knows how many more places will be bombed and how many more innocents will be killed. Iraq and Palestine will always be a source of encouragement for the jihadis towards committing terrorist acts. A sense of hatred is developing in the minds and hearts of Christians world over against the Islamic terrorism. Whether you say it or not realities will remain as realities. The schism between the two great religions is growing and the dark days are ahead. In between, in order to keep their own house in order, the powerful countries like US and Britain will negotiate with Pakistan at their own term. It is doubted if the concern of India will be anywhere in their mind while discussions. West may again commit a mistake by allowing Pakistani terrorists to use India as their workplace in lieu of a peaceful West. Though this policy may again backfire as one of the cause of the hatred in the world i.e. the western colonial interest by capturing the countries like Iraq, will also continue to exist. But in their efforts the West may allow Pakistan this leverage of venturing into India. Thus there is a need for India to follow her own policy towards terrorism rather than relying totally on the US and UK. Enough is enough. We don’t want a solution to Kashmir when the knife is kept on the neck. Nobody want the precious life of Indian security forces taken so easily and cheaply and making more and more children orphans. The Indian government must immediately stop the peace process with Pakistan after giving one last warning. If Pakistan doesn’t stop the infiltration then India will have to rethink the Indo Pak relationship in a new perspective. The softness of Indian society may not be construed as weakness. And so the decaying Pakistan may be convinced that if they have to grow than they must draw a bigger line for themselves rather then attempting to become big by shortening the bigger line itself. If Pakistan refuses to agree then the sovereign India will have to recast its Pakistan policy. (If you like the article then you may e-mail it to two more persons. Group Housing Societies; DDA Dumping the Interest of Middle Class:Posted on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkDDA VC has said in a press conference that now onwards the Co-op Group Housing Societies in Delhi will have to build as many flats for the economic weaker section of the society as many they are building for the regular members of the society. For this, additional land would be allotted to the societies. This is a policy response to a direction of Delhi High Court in a court case in the name of Yogi Raj Krishna Vs DDA. Before coming to the details let me summarize the story based on the news paper reports from time to time so that the whole context is understandable. What is the method of allotting Land to the Cooperative Group Housing Societies(CGHS) in Delhi? The CGHS are formed and registered with the Registrar Cooperative Societies, Delhi Government, which in turn recommends them to the Delhi Development Authority for allotment of land in Delhi for residential purpose. This allotment is based on seniority of the societies. All societies, waiting for allotment, were registered up to year 1985. What is the story behind 135 societies which is published in the newspapers always? The Registrar cooperative societies(RCS) had recommended 135 societies an year back or so to DDA for allotment of land. There are about 17,000 members registered with these societies who would be getting flat once allotment is done and construction is completed. Once these societies were referred to DDA, DDA found anomalies in the list and many of the members and societies were non existing. DDA referred the list back to the RCS for re verification. In between a society names YogiRaj CGHS went to the High Court challenging the action of DDA. What was the initial response of High Court? The High Court took a serious view and pointed out that there are two serious aberrations which have crept into the scheme. (a) Builders have entered into the scheme who are throwing away the original members and bringing their own dummy members in the societies. Thus, societies have been captured by the builders who are cornering the subsidies given by the Government. It may be noted that the land allotted by the Government to the societies is at subsidized rate which is far below than the market rate, (b) The builders are then selling the built up flats in the open market at market rate which ranges between 30-60 lakhs. Thus high court was furious that the scheme has failed to benefit the intended beneficiaries i.e. the original members or the middle class of the society. What was the direction of the High Court then? The High Court directed that the Government of India and DDA may frame a policy in a time bound manner which ensures that either the plots are sold to the societies at the market price and the earnings go to the house building for the weaker sections or the GOI must ensure that the builders are kept out of the societies and benefit goes to the middle class. It also directed the Registrar Cooperative societies to verify the membership stringently so that wrong elements don’t get the benefit of a government scheme. What was the response of RCS and GOI and DDA? RCS decided a criteria for verification and published the notice in the Hindustan Times in December 2004 asking all the 135 societies to get the verification done. The criteria was informed to the court and the court was satisfied. DDA and MOUD came up with a policy which has the prime component a policy statement that now onwards the land would be allotted to the CGHS with the direction that they will have to built equal number of flats for the economically weaker section of the society for which extra land would be allotted to societies. What is the response of the societies to the process of verification? According to the Times of India report, in the first chance only 180 members out of 20,000 came forward for verification. The others didn’t turn up. The Delhi Govt. again gave a fresh opportunity in which about 7000, papers have been filed. God knows how many are correct. Thus it means majority of the members were fraud and most of the societies have been taken over by the builders. Thus, it means that a business of 17,000 X 30 lakh = Rs. 5,100 crore would have gone into the hands of the builders if DDA had allotted the land as per the recommendations of RCS. Seeing the fraud exposed, one of the society has gone to the High Court by filing another writ petition. The society challenged the process of verification by the RCS. Now the same bench of the high court has stayed the process of verification which means as of today no verification will be done. The final judgment is though yet to come. This will apply consequently to all the 135 societies. Is the policy of DDA to ask the cooperative societies to build the flats for EWS, the correct response to the High Court observations? Certainly not. The Times of India quotes VC, DDA as saying “ In order to reduce the huge disparity between the price at which societies take land from DDA and then sell flats to the public, DDA has decided cut down on its own profits. Supposedly a society is building 100 flats, it will now have to build 100 additional DUs of 25 sq. meter each for the informal service providers. Developer would have to take at least 10% more land and the profit margin would reduce”. This statement of DDA has dire consequences for the following reasons: (a) This statement accepts the premise that societies are captured by the builders and instead of devising a mechanism by which the builders are thrown out and only the real members are enrolled in the society as desired by the High Court, the policy intends to reduce the margins of the builders. Thus the new policy too benefits the builders and not the middle class, (b) The builder is a business man and not a moron. When the government is not fixing up the disposal price but is leaving it to the market forces then what stops the builder in adding up the cost of the EWS flat in the final cost of the flat for the middle income group. Thus instead of controlling the prices and making it affordable to the general public the cost of flat will go up. The middle class will be the sufferer, (c) The extra land allotted to the builder may basically be utilized for commercial purpose thus bringing more profit to the builder. It may be known that as per the new policy the amount of land to be allotted to the builder for EWS housing will not be proportionate to the requirement of 25 sq. meter per plat which is the planning norm or 600 DUs per hectare. It will be several times more which will benefit the builder, (d) It is formalizing of the process of cornering the land by builders under the guise of a scheme of the Government intending to benefit the middle class. (e) In all probability the builder by choice will build the high end flats for the upper strata of the society and dispose it off at the rate unaffordable by the middle class of the society, (f) In all probability the builder will by force build the EWS flats for the economically weaker section of the society and then again the middle class is left out. Thus it seems that the new proposal is neither able to address the issues of keeping out the builder from the Cooperative Group Housing Societies and nor it is able to check the cost of the flats. On the contrary it regularizes the builders role in the CGHS for profit making. What is my suggestion? It is fact that the Cooperative Group Housing societies are allotted land by DDA at a subsidized rate which is far below the market price. The motive of the Government is to benefit the middle class of Delhi by providing them the place of living at affordable price. The builders have captured these societies which have become a trading commodity in the market. Now there are two reasonable options for the DDA, (A) Recast the scheme and ensure that builders are kept out of the societies and the benefit goes to the real members of the society, (B) If that is not possible than auction the land among the societies and let the profit go to the housing schemes for the weaker sections of the society, as in any case when DDA has decided to allot land to the private players then in that scheme costing of plot as well as the flat will be decided by the market. Why then in case of CGHS the costing of plot is allowed at the subsidized rate whereas the disposal cost of the flat will be decided by the market thus ensuring the pocket of the builder gets thicker. Uma and Her Illusions:Posted on Monday, July 18, 2005 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link
Uma Bharti, the lady sanyasin of BJP, was on a popular Hindi Channel. She was interviewed in the programme which may easily be termed as the Hindi version of HARD TALKs. The premises which she floated during the discussions were following: (a) RSS is the mother of BJP and therefore the relations between the two can never be severed; (b) Ideology is more important than the individual; (c) Without RSS BJP is nothing; (d) RSS and LEFT converge on economic issues; (e) Bihar elections will be fought on Bijli,Pani and Sadak; On the first issue Uma Bharti was committal that there can’t be any severing of the relationship. Citing the analogy of mother and son she asked whether a mother can be separated from her son. I have deliberated in detail on the issue in my article “Mr. Mahajan: Mother RSS May Understand These Realities::when Promod Mahajan cited the same relationship between RSS and BJP. Still I would remind that in the changing social conditions these days, the sons have started living separately particularly after marriage and so the concept of jointness is not reflected in physical terms. The same is replaced by a sense of jointness. Mother RSS also will have to understand these realities and will have to allow the basic freedom so that the son BJP may survive in the tough competitive environment. Secondly, being the mother and the son doesn’t mean that the son dogmatically follows the mother. Infact a good mother is one who herself changes with time or else will have to feel the sorrow of strained relationship with her son. And lastly, mother dies also as nothing in the world is immutable. Here, if the mother RSS is not ready to change and allow sufficient leverage to the son BJP and if some how succeeds in pressurizing the son to follow her direction in toto than the dooms day is not far off for the son. Let mother than also see the death and participate in the cremation of the son BJP. And of course BJP is dead if from an all India party it is again trapped into a meaningless party with double digit representation in parliament and considered as pariah by the mainstream parties. That would be a historical blunder in plain and simple terms. Mrs. Bharti said that ideology is more important than the individual. But this is an incomplete understanding of the subject. She forgets at least two things.(A) Ideologies also change with times and with changing realities. The capitalism of 18th century is not the capitalism of today. The Communism as theorized by Marx and Lenin is either rejected today or has changed as in China and (B) there are individuals who invent ideologies and change and modify them. It was Marx who revolutionized the politics of an era by his dialectical materialism. It was Gandhi who defined democracy as RamRajya based on satya ahimsa and gave his own theory of human meaning and life. Innumerable examples can be cited which show that the individuals make history by abberating from the dogmatic ideas. And so if Advani wanted to give a push to the fate of BJP he may have been allowed. If he rejected the concept of Akhand Bharat or tried to redefine Indo Pak relationship or the concept of nationalism by accommodating the minorities in that at par with the majority, there seems to be nothing wrong in that. Advani as an individual should not have been deprived of this opportunity to put BJP on a larger canvas( minority appeasement is wrong but creating fear in the mind of minority is also wrong, of course whether it is minority or majority everybody will have to follow the rules of the game in toto and there can’t be any relaxation in that). When Uma Bharti says that without RSS, BJP is nothing the statement is incomplete. It is completed when we add that without BJP RSS is not complete. In fact RSS must realize that the opportunity to have a say in the power it got was only when the BJP came in power and its swamsewaks held the highest position in the government. If RSS reduces BJP to a small reactionary political party with outdated ideas and resistance to change which doesn’t recognize the realities of today than forget about BJP any other outfit of RSS too can never come to the center stage of Indian politics. The spirit of Indianness is in the madhyam marg of Budhha. An extreme rightist position can only be to create pressure on the government so that it doesn’t get involved into anti-people policies. The policies of the government must serve the interest of all communities including the majority community. But the political outfit governing the nation will have to be accommodative of the interest of all groups. If RSS shuns BJP or makes BJP a party as mirror image of RSS than it would not be unfair to predict that BJP will be reduced to less than 50 seats in Lok Sabha. And so Uma Bharti must check on this also. When Uma Bharti says that the views of RSS and left converge on economic policy than it strengthens my views that both the outfits are hijacking the socioeconomic policies of the country. They intend to distribute poverty and not prosperity. Can any leftist showcase West Bengal as the model of development for the entire country? If Mrs. Bharti thinks that when you come to absolute power than stop talking of human beings but talk of the cattle as the policy of development then it is a sorry state of mind of an enlightened Indian politicians. If WB is distribution poverty then so is Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand where the respective CMs are more interested in asking the government servants sing Vande Matrama and purchase of flashy cars for the ministers. Where is the concern for poor gone? When you get the opportunity then you waste the same and when you don’t then you speak of idealism. It is a pathetic theory of development. Thus the two deviants if they join hands then definitely the disaster is not far away. Poor Manmohan Singh must be experiencing the real heat of Left’s tantrums. Just as RSS didn’t allow Vajpei to realize his fullest and the party collapsed, similarly Left won’t allow the UPA government to get its best and would allow it to collapse. It is only a matter of time, if Left is not checked. And so I agree that both left and RSS have one convergence point and that is not to let the governments run smoothly and thereby let the public suffer. Lastly Uma Bharti says that the Bihar elections will be fought on Bijli, Pani and sadak. May I ask her what progress have been made in her own state where too the elections were fought on the issues of Bijli, Pani and sadak? Is their any real progress in MP except demagoguery? Don’t cheat the public. Now speech will not do. Action needs to be displayed so that public could be convinced that there is a development model existing for real and can be followed by all. Live by example. Make faster delivery with transparency as the moto in the states where BJP is in rule. People are not going to give you a chance again and again. Any such chance in future can be only by default like the congress got this time. Thus to sum up I feel that the BJP leaders like Uma Bharti must shed their dogmatic ideas and experiment with modern and progressive ideas. Advani should be give freedom to take the party along the path he has decided recently. If he can take the party to the glory in the last 10 years then he must be given another opportunity. Else BJP’s bad days are ahead. (If you like the article then you may e-mail it to two more persons. Send only if your conscience allows you to do so- Thanks). Mr. Prime Minister: Discuss the Rogue Pakistan with US:Posted on Friday, July 15, 2005 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkThe intelligence agencies and the police in London have identified those who were responsible for London attack in which more than 50 were killed and 700 injured. Three of the attackers have been found to be of Pakistan origin. The same Pakistan which is an active player in the US & UK strategy of international war against terror. Today Pakistan is an active exporter of terror world over. Some of the attackers of 9/11 were having links with Pakistan. London attack is proving how the Pak soil has become a breeding ground for both terrorist ideology as well as for the supply of weapons and required infrastructure. The culture of terrorism in the name of Islamic Jihad in Afghanistan is one of the historical contributions of Pakistan. Pak trained terrorists have played havoc in South East Asia. The top leaders of Al Quida are the host of ISI. To top it all India is the worst sufferer. Today India is bleeding because of Pakistan sponsored terrorism. Though Islam by basic tenets bears the concept of Kafirs and Jihad but religion as such is not so bigger a cause of terrorism as is Pakistan’s policy of weakening India though terror. Both main land as well as POK are the training grounds for terrorists. Only recently a Pakistani minister was exposed by one of the terrorists that in early 90s he allowed his farm to be used as terror school. This position was reconfirmed by the Ex-Pakistan Army General Mirza Aslam Beg. US in fact was the active supporter of terrorism when it supported the Afgan Mujahideens logistically to counter USSR. In the process Pakistan became the conduit and US ignored the germination of Islamic fanaticism in Pakistan both at the level of society and at the government level. Pak’s felonies against India were condoned for this reason. The growth of the terror culture then affected US herself when the incident of 9/11 took the US by shock and awe. Again the short sighted US policy of getting the help of Islamic Pakistan in removing Talibans from Afghanistan and Saddam from Iraq has lead US declare Pakistan as active partner in their war against terror. But see what has been the result? Again the Pakistan linked terrorists have attacked UK which too has put not only UK but whole of Europe in shock and awe. The explanation seems to be very simple. Can you get nectar by feeding poison? Absolutely not. And the problem with Americans is that they think that law of nature can be reversed. They expect nectar by feeding poison. The shortsighted approach of US policy which considers an attack as terror attack only when it is on American interest is condemnable. If US wishes that India, the largest democratic country in the world, must be a long term partner of US on issues of common interest then US will have to change its Pak policy. Pressure will have to mounted by US on Pak to dismantle it terror network and stop all terror preaching in the name of Islam. Pakistan too must learn from how Blair has declared in the House of Commons that the hardcore mullahs will be deported from UK. Is it not a shame for the followers of Islamic faith? Only one incident has lead the West to retaliate so furiously which boasts of being the most secular, flexible and tolerant society. India on the contrary is a far flexible country. It is in this context that I propose that PM in the ensuing visit to US must keep Pak high on the agenda and try to convince US that Pakistan is a rogue state. Pakistan needs to be declared a rogue state. Indian Intellectuals: Please spare Ram and Krishna:Posted on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link
The History text book “Ancient India” for class XI standard has been revised by the noted historian R S Sharma. The revised edition says that there is no scientific evidence to prove the existence of “RAMA” and “KRISHNA”. And why Sharma only, the other great Historians of modern India like Irfan Habib,Romila Thapar,Satish Chandra, and Arjun Dev also fall in the same league not to talk of thousands of others whose minds have been indoctrinated by these intellectuals. As a reaction the pro-BJP elements took law in their own hand and burnt effigies of these Dons. Society is again drawn into a debate of tolerant Vs intolerant, secular Vs Communal, bigot Vs rational and so on so forth. Arjun Singh may be a happy man and people confused and saddened by the series of toxification and detoxification drives.
Nothing in the world of humans is without a motive. And when you talk of intellectuals then it is foolish to even imagine that these great people may have written such scientific papers without any motive. Anyway what ever is the motive, whether it is an attempt to see the realities of the world from the eyes of empirical senses and rationalistic minds by applying mind even where the realm of reason ends and the realm of faith starts or to become an agent of those politicians who aim to create a social environment by convincing the young generation that the God whom they revere is nothing but an expression of a pack of unscientific myths and thus would have a secular solution to the present bone of contentions viz Ayodhya,Kashi & Mathura by constructing some library or monument on the disputed sites rather than a temple in Ayodhya while maintaining status quo at other places :the motive is challengeable. The whole Indian society and its culture has been based around the concept omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient Brahman of whom Lord Ram and Krishna are the most prominent expressions. Even if they are product of mythical weaving of ideas, there influence is so strong on Indian mind that it starts with the birth and end with the death only. The great debates in the west about the theological dilemma whether GOD exists or not has never ended with any definite conclusion. The greatest rationalists of all time in the west were rather forced to accept the existence of GOD. If Kant said that “reason should make room for faith” in order to believe in GOD then Hegel too was in favour of Supreme ideas as GOD. Durkhiem went to the extent of calling the social collectivity as GOD. The greatest scientists of the world accepted the existence of GOD with all humility. All the great religions of the world whether Hinduism, Christianity or Islam are based on the existence of GOD and none of the followers even in West goes beyond a limit to prove the non-existence of GOD. The concept of GOD has functional utility too. It is an answer to your uncertainties. A boatman going into the sea doesn’t know when the sea will become violent and whether he will be able to come back home or not, how the homes of the thousands innocents killed in New York’s twin towers or in Iraq will be run is left conveniently on GOD, the more competent historians than R S Sharma and Romila Thapar etc. couldn’t get promotion or social recognition or money remain content because they believes in GOD. The failure of science to explain the evil in the world is a cause in believing GOD. The fact that science or reason has not disapproved the existence of GOD is a reason for believing in GOD. The fact that the world has several times more theists than atheists or agnostics makes one believe in GOD. And there may be so many arguments why one believes in GOD. Take the case of either US or France or England or for that matter any western country from where the source and inspiration for secularism is derived by most of the intellectuals. Has anybody dared to ask why the Americans recognize Christianity in their constitution, why the Americans targeted every Sikh/Muslim in US after 9/11,why the French don’t allow the Indian Sikh students to wear turban in the French schools as they believe only in Catholicism and not in the existence of any religion, why the Britons have targeted the Sikhs and Muslims after 7/7 and why all the head of the States went to Vatican on the death of Pope and the take over of the new Pope? Why don’t the greatest rationalists de recognize Christianity as religion when they represent the state. The Christianity is based on the myth that Jesus was born to virgin Marry. Is it scientifically possible to even imagine that a virgin girl may give birth to a child. But even then the Christians don’t go probing into the myth by applying their scientific mind and accept the premises as they are. People of Islamic faith, however modern or uneducated they were, cried foul when Salman Rushdie wrote the blasphemous comments about prophet Mohammad. It is only the modern glamour savvy Indian intellectuals filled with inferiority complexes who apply their mind and senses in disproving that Ram or Krishna didn’t exist. Why don’t they just leave GODs like in other faith it has been? The dogmatic practices in the religion must be disapproved and rejected but the attempt to disapprove the very existence of GOD is the most unscientific thing under the sky. There is no alternative theory which else would be better replacement of the concept of GOD for the very survival of mankind. In fact by doing so Indian intellectuals are no better than Togadia. On the other hand they are strengthening the hands of fanatics like Togadia. The role of religion is as important for the existence of society as is the role of politics and economics for the governance and nourishment and growth of the society. In view of the totality of narrations, it is therefore, the role of the state to keep itself away from meddling with the religious feeling of the people of India. Arjun Singh, in connivance with the left would do irreparable loss to the Indian society by getting such doctrines imbibed in the mind of Youth. It is easier to destroy the society than to build it strong, emotionally, socially, economically, politically, ethically and spiritually. Build a strong and vibrant India then. Punctuality: A Damned Value In India:Posted on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link A small step has been taken in the ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. Few machines were installed at the gates and every employee is asked to register his arrival and departure time in the office through his finger prints. It may appear ludicrous that a ministry of GOI which should have spent time in formulating the right policies for the society is getting involved in such small tasks. But issue is not so simple as seen. A pattern has developed over the years where the employees in the government sector derive satisfaction in coming late. Punctuality has been divorced and so is the sense of commitment to work in the organization. The decease of late coming is a universal feature in the Indian society. A lekhpal(patwari) never is seen in the field except when one bribes him for the same. A station officer in a police station is always invisible on the pretext that he was on night duty. Majority of the teachers in government and semi government schools are late coming. The main reason is that the tutorial classes they take privately is so occupying that school/college takes a back seat. You can find long queues in the collectorates where the public keeps waiting for a glimpse of the sahibs since morning. The secretariats are always late starters except for few important departments. Ladies universally have a license to come late and go early. No body can do anything about that. If one does try to remind them then one should be ready for charges of harassment. It is perhaps this pathetic state of mind set of Indians working in the Government sector that may have compelled the secretary Urban development Shri Anil Biajal to hit at the very fundamental level of aberration of values: the value of punctuality. In Japan if an employee is late by few minutes, say for the reason that the local train was late, then the railway administration issues a certificate to the passenger which he shows to his department to get exemption for the delay. Such is the sense of discipline. The same goes with the Indian Pvt.Sector. But thanks to the philosophy of unionism and the Indian trait of indiscipline and the license of assured feeding that the employees of government sector consider their birth right in coming late. The basic cause behind the sense of late coming is that we think that the same may go without punishment. It is another matter that we never identify with the organizational goals and never feel committed to give our best for it. The politicization of bureaucracy and the growth of nexus based on involvement in corrupt activities is another reason why indiscipline has grown. Last but not least is the protection to such activities by Unions. The days of unrestricted indiscipline is gone with the arrival of market forces in India. Not only pvt. sector but the government sector is feeling the pinch. The indiscipline combined with inefficiency and corruption in the government sector has lead the organizations to reduction in roles and outsourcing of the same to the private sector. Time is not far away when the malignancy will be considered incurable. A small example is the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Singapore to India for signing the especial economic cooperation agreement. He conveyed in so many words that the Indian bureaucracy is the hurdle in growth of relationship between countries. This comment is a slap on Indian bureaucracy. The effort of the Ministry of Urban Development must be seen in the light of this inertia, inefficiency, indiscipline and lack of commitment for the organization. Kudos to Mr. Baijal for bringing a very small but very important change. The other ministries of the central government must immediately adopt the same method of checking late coming and direct all the PSUs and Authorities under them to follow the suit. The state governments may also be instructed to go in for the same innovation in a time bound way. Bringing discipline in public life is must for a developing country like ours which otherwise is loosing about 20% of its work time and the productivity everyday because of late coming.
Ayodhya and London (My views 4)Posted on Monday, July 11, 2005 at - 2 Comments - Post Comment - LinkTwo serious incidents with global ramifications have occurred within a week.(a) Terrorist attack on one of the most revered places of Hindus and (b)terrorist attack on public places in London. In the former only one or two were killed whereas in the latter more than 50 killed. However seriousness of the Ayodhya incident can’t be rated lower simply because less number of persons died. On the other hand, it could be termed more serious as it is the abode of the deity of more than 80% of the 1 billion Indian population. The world showed maximum concern for what happened in England whereas the reaction on Ayodhya was limited. The impact of London will have long term consequence whereas the impact of Ayodhya may be temporal in the eyes of many. The intellectuals world over are criticizing London attack out of conviction whereas the Indian intellectuals and elite are managing Ayodhya as nothing has happened. Not to talk of world media esp. the British and the US media which obviously will give utmost importance to London incident till Britain captures one or two Islamic countries in the name of hitting at the network of terrorists like the US did for the sins of twin towers demolition in NewYork. Strange that the Indian media esp. the electronic have posted their journalists to London for a running commentary running into several days giving every details of British expressions. Compared to this zeal, Ayodhya seems to be pariah. In England the Muslims are condemning the act in so many words and so many times so that the same resonates not only in England but also in every nook and corner of the world, whereas in India there were very few reactions and that too lead by suspicion of various kinds so much so that a leading journalist makes it a point to repeat that the lead of Pande(the freelancer pujari and guide killed in Ayodhya blast near the jeep) may not be left un probed as the same may lead to a Hindu conspiracy behind the attack. To sum up most of the expressions in India are a clear manifestations of the guilt feeling and inferiority complex about self(whether individual or collective) and assigning superiority to others. The intellectual are shy of criticizing Ayodhya as they feel that the demolition of Babri Mosque was a bigger terrorist act than the present one. If one of the leading columnist in Hindustan Times wrote so, another communist turned communal turned neo secular wrote in an article in the Indian express that the Hindus must say sorry for what happened in 1992 in Ayodhya. And there are n numbers of intellectuals taking this line. The irony is that those who follow another line, not even supporting RSS line, are termed as communal. The caucus is so strong that its words are believed not only at the national level but internationally. However these sets of intellectuals, though in majority, have lost there objectivity and have become prisoners of their own limited conviction. Their truth narration is dangerously incomplete with ulterior motives. There can be a line of thinking which may not agree with the RSS and BJP still may say the truth objectively and completely. For this school the act of 1992 was not an act of terrorism but an expression of the frustration of the majority of Indian society to correct a historical blunder. Such acts may not be legal, which of course it was not. But rather then calling it a terrorist act it may at best be called communal expression and one that hurt the sentiments of the minority who too are born and brought in the same soil. But the logic doesn’t end here. The story shall be incomplete unless the way Babar demolished the temple and built a mosque there is also taken in the totality of events.( It is an undeniable fact that the muslim invaders loved to demolish Hindu structures of worship). So the events can be logically reduced to the following premises. (b) Babar demolished the temple, (c) Babar built a mosque which of course was not the birth place of prophet Mohammad and no namaz is offered for last several decades, however it became a sentimental point for muslims due to demand from Hindus to take it back, (d) The Hindus demolished the mosque forcefully by taking law in their own hand and without caring the sentiments of muslims, (e) Now the Hindus want a temple to be built at the same place, Now lets find out the apparent cause of the London incident, (a) Twin towers in US was attacked on 9/11 in which thousands of innocents were killed, (b) Al Qaida was held responsible, (c) Taking advantage of it, under the cover of a lie that Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction both US and Britain attacked the sovereign Iraq and destroyed the society, its fabric and the structure of governance( to remove Saddam was responsibility of Iraqi public and not Bush who had a personal point to score or the liar Blair. (d) Attack on Iraq gave the opportunity to the terrorists to resort to inhuman ways of taking revenge. (e) London attack occurred in which the innocent civilians were killed, Both narrations can be further reduced to the premises as follows: (A)Muslim invader hurt the sentiments of the majority community(Hindus) which in turn hurt the sentiments of muslim minority, (B)The traditionally colonial invader(England) played with the sovereignty of an independent nation (Iraq)under the cover of an argument which turned out to be a lie which in turn has given a ground to Islamic terrorists to attack innocents. Now the issue arises as to whether there can be an end to these inhuman acts? History can’t be rolled back nor can the full proof solutions be framed. Still some concrete efforts can be done to stop humanity fighting humanity. In this context I broadly prescribe the following solutions in respect to the two incidents. Ayodhya: (a) Let the Muslims regret what Babar did to the temple, let Hindus regret about 1992, let Muslims allow Hindus to built the temple of Lord Ram at the same place and let Muslims be allowed to build a grand mosque in Ayodhya at some distance and finally let Hindus declare that they would maintain status quo and no claims shall be made w.r.t. Mathura and Kashi. And this may be done through a larger consensus among both communities in the shortest possible time so that further politicization on the issue is not done. (b) Attacks on West: Let sovereignty of Iraq be restored and US and Britain immediately withdraw the forces. Saddam too be allowed to participate in the democratic elections in Iraq to be overseen by either UN or combined Arab forces( or forces drawn from all Islamic countries) who would ensure that the integrity of Iraq remains intact. The final solution for Iraq must come from Iraqis and not be superimposed from outside. Both Bush and Blair may say sorry for lying on the issue of WMD in Iraq and disturbing the sovereignty of Iraq, Bush and Blair may resign voluntarily giving way to fresh faces, Muslims world over condemn what happened on 9/11 and in London and cooperate with the rest of the world in destroying the structure of terror world over including POK and Kashmir. A new dawn of hope is required for the peaceful existence of humanity. (If you like the article then you may e-mail it to two more persons. Send only if your conscience allows you to do so- Thanks)
Ayodhya: Politicization is inevitable(My Views:3):Posted on Friday, July 8, 2005 at - 0 Comments - Post Comment - LinkDebate amongst the political circles going on now a days is whether to politicize terrorist attack on Ram Janma Bhumi in Ayodhya or not. On one hand the BJP as political party and RSS,VHP and the Bajrang Dal as social organizations, claiming to be advocates of Hindu sentiments and interest in the country are hell bent on politicization of the issue. The other side of the political spectrum represented by Congress and Left are totally against politicization of the same. The stream of most of the western educated intellectuals of the country are also in favour of non-politicization of the issue. Yesterday, terrorist attacks in London killed 37 and injured about 700. Observers say that it is the biggest attack on the innocent civilians in London since world war II, even bigger than the IRA attack in 1972 in which about 28 persons were killed. The British polity is unanimous in opinion and the opinion is to focus on the incident and its cause, without maligning the government on the issue at this juncture even if there are points to attack. The argument given in India esp. by Congress is that neither it is time to criticize the government nor is there any scope as even the congress didn’t criticize beyond an extent the then government of Atal Bihari Bajpeyi when the Parliament or Akshardham or JK assembly or Chittisinghpura was attacked. There is a sound logic in this plea. But the issue is will some of the political parties or organizations agree to this plea. The answer is NO and the cause of saying NO is following: The politics of a society is done either on social issues or on economic issues or a combination of both. Mostly the political parties operate with a combination of both sets of issues, social and economic, depending on what type of issues are thrown at what time. The more the society is developed the more is the chance that economic issues are at the center stage. However, high development and growth don’t mean that the social issues loose their relevance, more so in a diverse country. For example, whatever efforts are made in England today by all shades of the political spectrum the schism created between Islamic and the non Islamic followers after the bomb attack has widened. Similarly 9/11 has definitely created more suspicion about the muslims in US than ever. Now seen from the genealogical point of view the origin of Congress in India lies in freedom struggle which has both social and economic dimensions. After the independence however the basic social conditions, of how the society should live, were settled and they got reflected in the preamble of our constitution. The preamble became the fundamental guiding principle for the centrist parties like Congress. Left, on the other hand, is rooted in the economic interpretation of society and therefore has primarily concentrated on the economic issues and so the first premises of the social existence in a democratic India is totally accepted by them except the fact that the secularism means for them distancing of polity from religion whereas the constitution interprets it as sarva dharma sambhav. It is the parties like BJP, Samajwadi Party, BSP,RJD,LJP,DMK,AIDMK,Shiv Sena, etc which have their origin in the social issues. If BJP is the political face of RSS which primarily is the advocate of Hinduism overlapping Indian Nationalism then the other parties(except ShivSena) derive their political strength from different castes or castes groups and are based on different permutations like M Y, Dalits, DY and other combinations of backward catses etc. The effort of Vajpeyi to take the political debate along the economic issues failed as neither it was supported by the ideological conviction from within nor did his economic policies bear the fruits so early so that the voters could support the party. Rather it furthered the ideological contradictions within so much so that it seems that Advani will have to resign in the last. Ultimately, Vajpei may also have realized, after this experiment, that the level of economic development in India is not to the extent so that the economy could guide the polity. On the contrary India is still having the conditions where the religion and castes govern the polity of the day. Thus, it means that those parties whose origin are primarily rooted in the social causes i.e. either religion or caste, will have to politicize issues of such nature or else their survival will be in jeopardy. Furthher the political leadership of such parties are not enlightened enough which could give a push to the polity for a more elevated platform.i.e. with absolute majority CM Madhya Pradesh is in the news either for asking his bureaucracy to sing Vande Matram on daily basis in the office or in shifting the location of schools on the basis of the Hindu /Muslim domination in the area or in appointing his daughter in law as MD of MP tourism. There is hardly any time for him to work for the economic upliftment of the society. And lastly in the context of BJP, the Left has not left any space for criticism of the government on economic issues as none of the parties can have the expertise in criticizing the government of the day on economic lines as left is doing. And so BJP has failed to play an effective role of opposition on economic issues. May be BJP tend to agree with the government on basic direction of the present economic policy. But the credit for creating the importance of the religion or caste issues in the polity of the country also equally goes to those who boast themselves to be advocate of secular polity in the country. They are adept in highlighting each and every issue under the sky as either secular or communal. The railway accident in Gujrat was more known for politicization on secular and communal lines rather than an accident which needed the attention of the government on various front including the treatment to the injured and compensation to the families of those who died. And so there is a pattern to such politicizations where in each and every event under the sky is divided either on secular or communal lines, the advantage going to either the secular party or to the one which is termed as communal. When Paswan ensures that the newly elected Bihar assembly never sees the light of the day simply because of his demand that there should be a muslim CM, a lay man could also understand what his stand will lead to. So lets not talk of ourselves as holier than thou. The fact is that even the pure mundane issues are interpreted on secular and communal lines, the polity of our country has been made to operate only in these two worlds of secular and non secular. Responsible are all in the political crowd, whichever party they belong to. And so when we have sown the seed who will reap. We all only. Hence my theory is that whether the political parties like or not the issue of Ayodhya is mandatorily going to be politicized and the country will definitely experience the consequence of any such move. It may be a different issue whether the impact of this is going to be big or small.

All the six terrorists were killed without allowing their nefarious designs to succeed and no damage was done to the sanctum sanctorum. Nation was saved from another possible countrywide riots. If the faith of millions of Hindus worldwide was not allowed to be shaken then the nation’s prestige was also kept intact. And for this the daring javans of the forces were responsible. A view appeared in a section of press which somehow gave the impression that the operation was low in significance when compared with the one in Parliament or Ashkardham. Any such notion is false both by the standard of target or the actual operation. For one Ram janma bhumi is one of the most sacred places and any damage to the sanctum sanctorum may have created uncontrollable situation in the country. Two, simply because the operation ended in about two hours and without any casualty from forces side doesn’t reduce its gravity. The smoothness of the operation rather proves how adept were the jawans in tackling such matters. It was as tough and dangerous as one in the Parliament or Akshardham. The barometer of such operations can’t be the number of casualties on the side of the forces or damage to the target. Contrary to any such perception yesterday’s operation was one of the best performance ever given by security forces. The local MP from Faizabad was critical of the DG police on the ground that it was DG’s policy of reduction of force from the site that may have encouraged the terrorists to attack the temple premises. This criticism may have been made because of the political context as he is from BSP. Or DG may not have heeded to any of his demands at any point of time. But another aspect of the issue is that any examination regarding the professionality and competence of the forces may also be considered from the point of view of the socio-political milieu of present day UP (and for that matter of the country). The present DG(police) who may have got the post because(a) his wife is an active member of the ruling party(b) he is of the same caste and district which also is the caste and district of one of the most important leader of the ruling party. Now under the conditions the equation has to be based on quid pro quo. When the caste and area becomes important rather than professionality then the force is no better than committed. DGP may have been more busy in devising the method of how to ensure that constables & Sub-Inspectors are recruited and that too primarily of one particular caste. The officers of the police may be more busy in confronting the local issues as per the demand of the local political junta than improvement in their functioning based on modern technological and managerial principles. If they fail to deliver as per the satisfaction of the leadership then they shall definitely be termed as serving the interest of the opposite party. Forget about professionality which these days is a taboo. And why do we criticize the police only. Almost every branch of the governance is performing badly. Are those officers involved in the mass rigging of NOIDA land draw, which was held three days back, not deviants? Are the officers involved in civil supplies scam in UP not deviants? (these are only indicative and not exhaustive). But what happens to them even if their violation is made public? NOTHING. There are patterns of inefficiency and corruption emerging in the society. Then why is the police singled out? Thank god then. Under the conditions the forces performed so perfectly. They saved the lord and the nation. Any opinion about the forces should be formed under these parameters which in turn may then be more realistic. And from that point of view they definitely were superb. PM Must Talk Tough or Else Togadia May Become Hero:Posted on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkToday morning the RamJanma Bhumi Campus was attacked by few terrorists. The initial laxity by the security forces was made up by the brave defense and all the terrorists were killed very soon. The driver of the vehicle used has been arrested. The interrogation will subsequently reveal the designs and the forces involved in the attack. Though the nation is enraged, the political reactions have started pouring in. RSS has till now given a very restrained statement and so has BJP. But the morning session has been hijacked by the fiery Togadia. In a almost open address to the nation(thanks to media) he exhorted the country on the need to march towards Rawalpindi. Togadia has got the right issue at right time. Only yesterday he moved a motion in the extraordinary meeting of RSS to condemn Advani on his stand on Jinnah. When RSS was struggling to cope with the issue of Advani and the media reports were that after the exit of Kulkarni, the political secretary of Advani, RSS may have provided some breather to him, this gory incident will definitely help the hardliner like Togagia. It may not be surprising that even Advani may have to take a hard stand now. The fence sitters in the BJP may too tilt towards hard-line as the exploitation of this issue may again help BJP in its revival. Whatever will happen will happen as a fact of the political life and the nature of the political parties is always to exploit such issues to the hilt. But a more serious movement will be the mileage which Togadia may get. At a personal level he may use this event to become the biggest champion of Hindus. He would like to convince his fellow colleagues by saying ”see what I said is correct. Even when I said Advani is a traitor then that too was correct. You didn’t believe but now you have to”. And unfortunately nobody will have a convincing answer to the half baked and dangerous theory of Togadia.
